The Directorate of Distance Education
of SMU has created a powerful model for teaching and learning. Our
University today provides distance education to hundreds of students
across the country, pursuing graduate and post-graduate programs
across several disciplines. |

We are committed to continually improving the quality of our
distance education programs and providing a learning experience
and quality of instruction that will eventually be superior to
traditional campus based programs.
We call this learning experience " The SMU Way ". The
SMU Way is learner centric and puts the student at the core of
an experience that combines four distinct learning delivery systems:
-
Self Learning: High quality Self Learning
Material is made available both in print and digital form.
-
Counselling at Learning Centers (LCs): Face-to-Face
instruction at our LCs located across the country.
-
VSAT delivered lectures: Supplementary instruction
and expert sessions delivered across our VSAT network. The University
is contemplating to introduce contemporary practices for some
of the programs.
-
Technology Enabled Learning or TE-Learning
makes innovative use of technology as an essential element of
the learning experience and provides high quality student services
such as advising, counselling, monitoring and access to reference
libraries and subject experts. An online workspace that makes
digital content, assignments, reference material and access
to mentors and faculty available to student on a 24/7 basis.
TE-Learning is delivered using the Manipal Universal Learning
Network (M-ULN) platform.
